How to Find a Good Driving School

How do you choose a Driving School?

Driving Schools vary in size from one man or woman businesses to national companies. Which is the best? Well both have their plus points. With a national company you don't get such a personalised service - you will ring an office, rather than the Instructor him/herself. A really poor Instructor will probably get weeded out in a big business, but a poor Instructor who is a sole trader will soon find his work dries up if his standards are not up to scratch.

One thing that new learners rarely consider is whether the Instructor is fully qualified. Trainee Instructors, who have not yet passed the third and final exam are allowed to teach people to drive. A number of BSM Instructors will be trainees AA Driving School do not use trainees. So just paying the highest price does not guarantee the best Instruction! Trainee Driving Instructors have a PINK badge with a triangle design on it. Fully qualified Instructors have a GREEN badge. You can ask when you phone to make a booking. All Instructors are graded. Grades 1 - 3 are awarded for inadequate standards, 4 is adequate, 5 is good and 6 (achieved by only about 3% of Instructors) is excellent.

A good pass rate (50% is above average) is important, but often, the best way to choose an Instructor is by recommendation from friends. Good Instructors by and large have a good reputation and plenty of people who are willing to recommend them. Ask friends and neighbours if they know a good Driving School they can recommend. Don't just go for the cheapest Driving School. Try to find one that is recommended.

Those Driving Instructors work on their own are sometimes found to be more reliable as they have a reputation to uphold!
